Rigorous and game-changing talk about sexual abuse and gender liberation. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, we’re organising a peer panel debate at this year’s Brainchild about the most important issues facing gender liberation.

It’s an issue that many of us care deeply about, and that affects all of us. If you want to know more or have any ideas for it, please get in touch with one of us or inbox the page :)

mscarlett92:

As summer slips away here at Brainchild...

Brainchild Mix Project

As summer slips away here at Brainchild HQ, we’re still trying to figure out how best to keep Brainchild alive and relevant to all those who felt inspired by it.

With that in mind, we’ve decided to open it up to you: artists, crew, punters - whoever, to help us explain what happened that weekend. We’re going to start the project with a series of releases, the first of which goes live at 11pm tonight! You can either mix your picks of the Brainchild lineup this year, or, if you’re a producer, submit an original release that captures yer BC experience.

With the incredible response of this summers festi premiere we’re finding it quite hard to put into words exactly what Brainchild was - we thought it was about time we started asking you to help us.

If you want to submit something for our channels, email me at sarah@brainchildfestival.co.uk

If your realms of inspiration fall into categories further afield and you’d like to submit something else, drop me an email and, if you need it, i’ll even try to give you the means to make it happen.

(Small update - i’ve been meeting some incredible people and locking down some serious framework for next years festival. Expect bigger and better than ever before. Standby…)

Big love,

James Massiah is a performance poet from South London whose work primarily revolves around themes of religion, race and sexuality. He has performed extensively across London and, impressively, recently began work on his first title. He’s also an incredible musician, with lyrics dealing with very similar themes to those addressed in his poems. Brainchild adore him for his dedication, drive and ability to inspire.

Ned Carter Miles is from Dorset but lives in London. He writes stories and makes music, but doesn’t label himself as either a writer or a musician. His work is interested in magical realism, spontaneous detail and fun facts. An exciting, fresh talent.

Artiste Numero 19: Nomad Soul

I first heard Nomad Soul in the depths of Winter last year. It was a really exciting time for me, uni was taking off and I just kept seeing more and more talented people wherever I looked - and subconsciously I think this band had a lot to do with why I wanted to start this Brainchild project. I found it so exciting to hear people I knew tackling so much musically. They are brilliant musicians, and hearing the mishmash of jazz sounds, electronic effects, and symphonic brass come together so well you can’t help but grin that the future of music feels so great. They’ve had an incredible reception with the scarce material available online, so it’s worth checking out. Furthermore, their live performance will be astounding in the sun. Definitely one of my picks of the weekend, and I thank them for being such a game fellows - particularly their bassist who is DJing as well at one point, he’s always making something good.

I’m going to their gig at the New Cross Inn tonight, I recommend coming along.

(Also check out this video that was made for Murmuration, it’s actually a flight formation for birds http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRNqhi2ka9k)

The uncanny tale of Banksy-Disciple Thierry Guetta and his obsession with street art will be shown in the forum over the weekend. Bring your sleeping bags and leave your preconceptions at the door.

Pairing each song with an illustration, The Graphite Set blend abstract lyrics and beautiful drawings to expert effect. Previously Lily and the Hackabouts, these guys have a real drive to create something unique, something the Brainchildren can’t help but admire.

The second of twins, the youngest of eight, Justina’s passion for justice and the world’s social state is evident in her works. Jazz singer, public speaker, poetic dreamer, Justina admits to being forever on the brink of conceiving a profound idea that always seems to disappear just as the pen is removed from behind her ear. Beautifully human poetry delivered by a close friend of the Brainchild team.

Palmistry is a sexy and consuming mangle of Rn’B and bass music; voices trail off into the night while the bass throbs into the scene in sudden and objectively uncompromised positions. It has the striking ability to feel and sound like something you’ve heard before, whilst surprising you with its urge to distract and discourage from genre specifications. Thrilled to have such a unique, wonderful guy headlining our mainstage this year!

An amazing talent, Onoe Caponoe’s unafraid to take stylistic risks, to the triumph of his stunning debut LP “Central Control”. Described as “Funk Mafi Slump Bashy Drunk Smashy Crunk Mashy Skunk Trash Punk Flash Funkadelic West Coast Tripple Playaz Slayaz”, we booked Caponoe because his music holds the ability to connect and even challenge the way you utilise your influences as a musician.
