‘Once we start asking these big questions, that’s when we can start to be transformative and address systemic problems’.
Rigorous and game-changing talk about sexual abuse and gender liberation. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, we’re organising a peer panel debate at this year’s Brainchild about the most important issues facing gender liberation.
It’s an issue that many of us care deeply about, and that affects all of us. If you want to know more or have any ideas for it, please get in touch with one of us or inbox the page :)

Planning for Brainchild 2013…

Most of our news and notifications have gone on our Facebook recently - so it’s time to get up to scratch with our website! We are currently working on a new website with some new designs and ideas that will have more information about this year’s festival as it builds.
In the meantime, all information will be up to date on here, and for more information we are still contactable at marina@brainchildfestival.co.uk.
It’s nearly ticket time! 5-7th July. Here’s a link to our launch gig at the Bussey Building on the 21st, and for the festival 2013!
Brainchild Mix Project
As summer slips away here at Brainchild HQ, we’re still trying to figure out how best to keep Brainchild alive and relevant to all those who felt inspired by it.
With that in mind, we’ve decided to open it up to you: artists, crew, punters - whoever, to help us explain what happened that weekend. We’re going to start the project with a series of releases, the first of which goes live at 11pm tonight! You can either mix your picks of the Brainchild lineup this year, or, if you’re a producer, submit an original release that captures yer BC experience.
With the incredible response of this summers festi premiere we’re finding it quite hard to put into words exactly what Brainchild was - we thought it was about time we started asking you to help us.
If you want to submit something for our channels, email me at sarah@brainchildfestival.co.uk
If your realms of inspiration fall into categories further afield and you’d like to submit something else, drop me an email and, if you need it, i’ll even try to give you the means to make it happen.
(Small update - i’ve been meeting some incredible people and locking down some serious framework for next years festival. Expect bigger and better than ever before. Standby…)
Big love,

What’s happening to Brainchild?
Up to current date and what’s next: Brainchild’s gotta survive, and it’s got to happen next year. It was a real dream come true to see so many people happy and crazy and doing something different at this little festival this year and I think everyone on the team has felt something special. We did it, wahayy! Whod have thought it… (Honestly though..)
But the important thing to remember is that we’ve all done it, and while I’ve done the financial work getting it started, its got to remain an opportunity for others to get involved with and have their thoughts and ambitions and independent creative skills flourish.
There are of festivals in the UK these days. But we are the young and everyones doing amazing stuff without putting hideous price tags on it. We are creating our own experiences and forming our own ways of thinking. That’s what Brainchild’s about and that’s what it was born out of.
We want to make short films across the year about all the creative projects we think are doing something interesting and whose story should be told. Brainchild should act as a source and support of exciting work from musicians, writers, poets, artists and storytellers wherever we find them.
Enough of the ambitious and dreamy writing, we’re still paying bills and getting ourselves together from this year, but this is a post to say, this is happening. Thank you all for enjoying yourselves, and for being willing to help it happen. We’ll need hands on decks from here on out so that the festival and so much more can happen again, so if you know where we can find money and other helpful things, or if you want to do something particular for the project, just get in touch.
One love big love nuff love and stuff

Want to scan this, but here’s the mural Andrew and Chris drew at our launch night last week. Excited for the graffiti wall.
Steeze
We are thrilled to be hosting the latest installment of Steeze, an “open mic for open minds” formed by members of Southpaw (make sure you don’t miss their mainstage slot over the weekend!). Since its birth in february, a community of like minded artists has been growing; every sunday they host more diverse art forms in increasingly imaginative styles. This installment is sure to surprise, inspire and empower. A beautiful catalyst of creativity.

#21 James Massiah
James Massiah is a performance poet from South London whose work primarily revolves around themes of religion, race and sexuality. He has performed extensively across London and, impressively, recently began work on his first title. He’s also an incredible musician, with lyrics dealing with very similar themes to those addressed in his poems. Brainchild adore him for his dedication, drive and ability to inspire.

#20 Ned Carter Miles
Ned Carter Miles is from Dorset but lives in London. He writes stories and makes music, but doesn’t label himself as either a writer or a musician. His work is interested in magical realism, spontaneous detail and fun facts. An exciting, fresh talent.

Artiste Numero 19: Nomad Soul
I first heard Nomad Soul in the depths of Winter last year. It was a really exciting time for me, uni was taking off and I just kept seeing more and more talented people wherever I looked - and subconsciously I think this band had a lot to do with why I wanted to start this Brainchild project. I found it so exciting to hear people I knew tackling so much musically. They are brilliant musicians, and hearing the mishmash of jazz sounds, electronic effects, and symphonic brass come together so well you can’t help but grin that the future of music feels so great. They’ve had an incredible reception with the scarce material available online, so it’s worth checking out. Furthermore, their live performance will be astounding in the sun. Definitely one of my picks of the weekend, and I thank them for being such a game fellows - particularly their bassist who is DJing as well at one point, he’s always making something good.
I’m going to their gig at the New Cross Inn tonight, I recommend coming along.
(Also check out this video that was made for Murmuration, it’s actually a flight formation for birds http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRNqhi2ka9k)
#18 Exit Through The Giftshop
The uncanny tale of Banksy-Disciple Thierry Guetta and his obsession with street art will be shown in the forum over the weekend. Bring your sleeping bags and leave your preconceptions at the door.

#16 The Graphite Set
Pairing each song with an illustration, The Graphite Set blend abstract lyrics and beautiful drawings to expert effect. Previously Lily and the Hackabouts, these guys have a real drive to create something unique, something the Brainchildren can’t help but admire.
